What is a WebName?
A WebName is used for giving your place on the web a more personal or noticeable name. It is somewhat like a domain name, but as most domain names are already taken, it allows you to finally register the name for your website, you always wanted.

What is a TopLevelName ( TLN )?
Every WebName consists of a HostName and a TopLevelName. \r\nThe TopLevelName is the portion following the \".\" in the WebName. For example in myhost.com, myhost is the HostName, while com is the TopLevelName.

The WebNameResolutionProtocol wnrp is the protocol behind all WebNames. It allows you to use and access wnrp:// addresses.

Can I register any WebName?
Yes, as long as the WebName is still available, you can freely register it. Please note that the maximum number of characters allowed in the WebName is 512 and that only letters and numbers may be used.

For how long can I register a WebName?
WebNames are registered in periods of one year. During the registration process, you can choose to register your WebName for more than one period.

Which TopLevelNames can I register?
You can register any TopLevelName, that is not currently registered. The length of a TopLevelName must be between one and eight characters, i.e. .johndoe and .earth are valid TopLevelNames, while .universal is not. \r\nOnly letters and numbers may be used in a TopLevelName.

What is an exclusive TopLevelName?
Registering an exclusive TopLevelName means, that you will control who can register WebNames using this TopLevelName. \r\nIf you for example, register the TopLevelName .earth, then anybody, who wants to register a WebName like planet.earth or my.earth needs your consent for being able to do so.\r\n
\r\nBy using an exclusive TopLevelName, you individualize your WebNames even more. For example if your group or organization is called XTR, then by exclusively registering the .xtr TopLevelName, you can create such meaningful WebNames as wnrp://information.xtr, wnrp://stats.xtr, wnrp://board.xtr and be sure that no one else has a WebName ending with .xtr except you.
